The Silver Market: A New Growth Curve for SMEs

The silver market is no longer simply an emerging trend — it is a new growth curve that today’s SMEs cannot afford to overlook. As Hong Kong’s population continues to age, older adults are becoming more active, digitally engaged and discerning consumers, creating significant opportunities across health, wellness, retail, technology and community services.
Finesse Group was pleased to join “InnoPreneur MeetUp – The Next Opportunity: The Rise of the Silver Economy”, organised by HKPC and SME ReachOut together with co-organisers. The event brought together more than 100 SME representatives, industry pioneers and solution providers to explore how businesses can respond to the evolving needs of the silver economy.

Understanding the New Silver Consumer
During the event, our Director, Steve Yu, shared two key perspectives for SMEs entering or expanding in the silver market.
First, businesses need to understand the independent consumption needs of the new generation of older adults. Today’s seniors are not a homogeneous group defined solely by age. Many are financially capable, health-conscious and eager to maintain their independence, social connections and quality of life. They value products and services that respect their personal choices, are easy to use, and genuinely improve their daily living.
Second, technology should create warmth, not complexity. AI and gerontechnology can help businesses deliver more personalised, accessible and human-centred services — provided the solutions are designed around older adults’ real habits, language and needs.

Turning AI into Everyday Care
Using CARER.AI as an example, Steve demonstrated how AI can translate these principles into practical daily support for older adults.
CARER.AI is an AI health and lifestyle assistant designed for older adults. With a facial scan of around 30 seconds, users can review health-related trends and changes in key indicators, supporting greater awareness of their everyday wellbeing. The app also provides personalised health knowledge, dietary suggestions, wellness product recommendations and information on activities — helping users make informed choices in daily life.
Importantly, CARER.AI supports Cantonese voice interaction and features an intuitive interface designed with older users in mind. This makes technology easier to adopt and helps ensure that digital innovation feels supportive rather than intimidating.
For SMEs, this illustrates an important point: successful silver-economy solutions are not only about advanced technology. They must combine data-driven insight with empathy, simplicity and trust.

Building a Healthier Ageing Society
The enthusiastic response from participants reflected a growing recognition that the silver economy is both a social priority and a commercial opportunity. The conversations on stage and throughout the venue highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration — among technology providers, SMEs, financial institutions, community organisations and public-sector partners.
Looking ahead, Finesse Group will continue to uphold our vision as “The Warmest CareTech Company”. We will deepen our AI applications, work with more partners, and bring intelligent care solutions into more households — supporting older adults to live healthier, more connected and more fulfilling lives. Together, we believe technology can help build a healthier, happier ageing society.
