In recent months, Hong Kong has been touched by sad stories of elderly people living alone who passed away at home and were only found days later. These heartbreaking moments remind us how vulnerable some of our older neighbours can be, living quietly by themselves with no one nearby to notice when something goes wrong.
According to the Census and Statistics Department, there are about 1.9 million people aged 65 or above in Hong Kong, and nearly 240,000 of them were living alone in the first quarter of 2025. Many install a traditional Elderly SOS Alarm to feel safer, but these devices only work if the user can reach and press a button—something that may not be possible in an emergency.
Recently, Finesse Group shared our story with HOY on their programme. We explained how CARER.Home is using gentle, thoughtful technology and human care to evolve the old SOS Alarm into a kinder, smarter Home Safety System. For example, once an older person’s voice is recorded, they can speak out for help instead of having to press anything. If they fall to the floor and cannot reach the button, a pull‑string makes it much easier to call our 24‑hour support team.

CARER.Home can also connect to other thoughtful products, protecting them everywhere in the home—from the living room to the bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. Our Smart Watch X7 gently tracks blood pressure and heart rate, and helps families keep an eye on a loved one’s health and location from afar. In this way, we hope to keep families closer and more at ease, knowing that their elderly relative is safe and cared for, even when they’re not there.
